The Bikers Are Back; The Return of The Yorkshire Pedalthon

The brakes were on during the pandemic, but The Yorkshire Pedalthon has made its much anticipated return.

On Thursday 8th of September, Absolute sent a team out the office and into the Great Yorkshire countryside to push the pedals once again for a good cause.

Despite the unforgiving torrential downpours, the Absolute Team tenaciously hopped on their bikes to embark on the 38 or 67-mile routes over challenging terrain and steep inclines in the slippery road conditions.

This year The Yorkshire Pedalthon, organised by Iconic Cycling Events, started at the small market town of Masham. Chosen for its ideal location nestled on the fringes of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the venue promised a great cycle route and friendly atmosphere.

Alongside our Founder, Phil, members of from our accounts, project management, sales and marketing teams were all there to get a dose of what has always been a great event. Also riding were teams from DWF, Carter Jonas and many more.

Waking up to un-forecasted heavy rainfall was not ideal- especially for a 7.30am start- but this would not quell our spirits. As our 4th year sponsoring the event, we set up our Absolute station at the start line to provide fuel and encouragement for all the participants.

An air of uncertainty and hesitation lingered in the air as the torrents of rain persisted. But with some careful safety considerations, coffee, pre-bike fuel and tenacious spirit from the team, the commitment was held to go ahead with the ride.

So, with their branded orange gear, Team Absolute set off on their way around the beautiful (and soaking wet) Yorkshire Countryside.

Along the route, there were regular feeding stations championing local producers for the cyclists to refuel and recalibrate between each phase of the course. The stations were gratefully fully stocked with pies, cheeses and other amazing refuelling options, all kindly provided by the events partners: Wensleydale Creamery, Toppings Pies, Bothams of Whitby, and Riverford Organic Farmers, Yorkshire Tea and many more.

The challenging rural route was only made more treacherous given the slippery conditions and inevitable unforgiving drivers, but with the bright orange keeping them well visible and the Absolute comradery, the team pedalled through.

“The steep incline near Jervaulx Abbey was gruelling, but we all smashed it.” -Phil

In a traditional Absolute fashion, the team returned in good spirits having tackled the route against all odds and arrived back in great time and ready for the delicious lunch, hot drinks and massages provided at Masham Cricket Club.

So despite the weather, the event was a huge success and this year raised a fantastic amount for a cause close to the heart of all Yorkshire residents. Absolute are so proud to be a committed sponsor of such a consistently brilliant event.

“Giving back to the community is something that I really believe in and sponsoring the Pedalthon is a great way to this. That’s why it’s our 4th year being a key sponsor and why we love to participate -it’s always one of my favourite events of the year.”

-Phil Brown, Absolute Commercial Interiors Founder & CEO.
