Billy’s Bar, Elland Road
Client: Leeds United Football Club · Location: Norman Hunter (South) Stand, Elland Road, Leeds · Sector: Sports & Leisure
Some projects carry a bit more weight than others. Billy’s Bar sits inside Elland Road, one of English football’s most famous grounds, and it’s named after the man many fans call the greatest Leeds United player of all time. We’re proud to have been part of it.
A bar that bears a legend’s name
Billy Bremner captained Leeds through the most successful era in the club’s history. He made 773 appearances and lifted two league titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup and two Inter-Cities Fairs Cups. In 2006 supporters voted him the club’s greatest ever player, and his statue stands outside the ground. A space carrying his name had to feel right for the fans who walk through its doors.
The brief
Leeds United wanted a sports bar that works hard on matchdays, packed with home supporters before kick-off and after the final whistle. It also had to stay bright and welcoming as a public bar and venue through the week.
What we delivered
A striking entrance, with a full-height Billy Bremner mural and a bold purple Billy’s brand wall
A projected Billy’s logo on the floor to greet guests as they arrive
Hard-wearing stone-effect and wood-effect flooring, zoned for lounge and dining areas
A panelled bar counter set against a bright yellow back-bar wall, with a full line of draught taps
Club heritage graphics throughout, including a Leeds United crest feature wall and Billy’s career honours
Screens positioned across the space so live sport can be seen from every seat
Furniture for every kind of use: lounge chairs, dining tables and poseur tables with high stools
The work was carried out around the stadium’s live operations, so the venue stayed safe and the programme stayed on track.
