Record Breaking Year for Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon in Masham
On Friday 11th May 2018, the Absolute team met up to make the short drive north to the Theakston Brewery in Masham.
There, we joined up with 300 keen cyclists from over 120 different companies to tackles the grueling North Yorkshire countryside for the Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon 2018.
Organised by cycling experts Iconic Cycling Events, the Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon is championed by independent Yorkshire brewery T&R Theakston, starting and ending at its brewery in Masham.
Now in its fifth year, the ride has raised more than £61,000 to date for charity. The money raised will go towards the renovation of empty and derelict properties. In 2016/17 LandAid grant funded four projects in Yorkshire and Humber, bringing empty properties back into use for homeless young people in Leeds, Hull, Grimsby and Cleethorpes.
The 2018 Pedalthon raised a record-breaking £16,500 for the LandAid charity, thanks to the support of so many amazing teams and companies, both local and nationwide.
At various points along the route, our team were blessed with some amazing food and refreshments which had been kindly donated by some fantastic local businesses including: Yorkshire Tea, The Wensleydale Creamery, Heck Food, Appleton’s Butchers, Yorkshire Provender, Brymor Ice Cream and Riverford Organic Farmers
Our team set out with the intention to complete the 40-mile route around the Yorkshire Countryside. But after getting to the feeding station at the 20-mile point, the keener cyclists of our group (having just plowed through pork pies and energy drinks) decided to push themselves that bit harder and complete a further 40 miles, taking their route total to 60 miles.
The 2017 route was no easy task, but it didn't prepare our team for what was waiting for them in 2018. With 4,500m of climbs and constant gradient changes, our team had to dig that little bit deeper to find the strength to complete the route and cross the finish line.
Another excellent event, raising money for a fantastic cause to try and help those people who are less fortunate than ourselves.
The Absolute team would like to say a huge thank you to Carter Jonas, Iconic Cycling Events, Theakston Brewery and of course, LandAid.
